LINE Stamp Characters Appear In New Animated TV Series

NHN Japan, Inc. [J] has announced the broadcast of the animated TV series “LINE TOWN,” featuring popular characters from their free smartphone calling and mail application “LINE,” on Tokyo TV Channel 6, starting from Wednesday April 3rd at 6:30 PM.  This is the second time that LINE characters have been animated.

“LINE TOWN” [J] is an anime series in which Moon, Coney, Brown, James, Jessica, and Sally, the well-known characters from LINE Stamp, play out their human emotions in the setting of “Line Town.”  Already from January of this year the 5 minute short animation “LINE OFLINE ~Salary Man~” has been broadcast on Tokyo TV, but “LINE TOWN” fills a 30 minute time slot from 6:30 to 7:00 PM.  Also it is planned to be rerun on BS Japan starting from April 9th and air every week on Tuesday from 5:00 to 5:30 PM.  What’s more, the opening and ending theme are both directed by the renowned Nakagawa Shoko.

Nose Tissue Hello Kitty Stamps Free For Download On LINE Smartphone App.

SS Pharmaceudicals Inc. [J] has begun to offer “nose tissue” Hello Kitty stamps as promotion for the allergy nasal inflammation medicine “Alejion 10,” via the free phone call and mail smartphone application “LINE” [J] offered by NHN Japan Inc.. [J]

Hello Kitty is being used as the mascot character for “Alejion 10,” and this time the stampe being distributed features an original Hello Kitty design with a tissue stuffed up her nose.  There are 8 designs in all now being offered for free at the LINE stamp shop.  However the downloading period expires on October 15th, and they can be used for 180 days from the day of download.

Social Game “Majimon” Has Campaign With Energy Drinks

NHN Japan [J] is doing a tie-up campaign for their smartphone social RPG “Majimon” involving Suntory Beverage and Food Limited’s [J] “Vitamin Water Speed In” as well as “Energy Gear Water.”  The time period is from May 29th until June 18th.

In this campaign, when users input the 16 digit ID (serial number) on targeted products with a campaign seal into a special web page, they can get original monsters and recovery items in the game.  The special page can be accessed from within the game, and with each ID entered, you can get the recovery item “Vitamin drink” and a lottery ticket.  You can play the lottery one time with four tickets, and 10,000 players will receive the original monster “Biworune.”

Six Japanese Social Game Platformer Announced To End Complete Gacha

A communication council of 6 major Japanese social gaming platforms – Gree, DeNA(Mobage), Cyber Agent, Mixi, NHN Japan and Dwango – just released that they would not release new games having Kompu Gacha any more. Kompu Gatcha in current games will be also terminated by the end of this month.

From this morning, Klab (major third party provider), DeNA, Cyber Agent and Gree respectively expressed their plan to stop or shrink Kompu Gacha features on their games.

NHN Japan’s LINE App Hits 20 Million Users – After Just 8 Months

20 million – that’s the amazing number of users that LINE, a communication app made by NHN Japan, just hit. The free voice call/messenger app for iOS and Android just took eight months to reach this milestone (it was released in June last year).

LINE makes it possible for users to call or text each other for free after pulling information from the phone’s contact list (other people can be added via their LINE-specific ID). As a special feature, users can exchange “stickers” (cute icons and graphics) with each other (see below). Group communication is possible, too.

NHN Japan reported 10 million users in December 2011 and 15 million users on January 27. The company says that it reached 20 million users faster than Facebook (which needed roughly 38 months), Twitter (26 months), Mixi (73 months), GREE (77 months), or Mobage (54 months).

What’s interesting (apart from the unbelievable growth) is that 60% users are from outside Japan: this number makes LINE one of the most successful (internationally used) web/mobile products coming out of this country ever.

Even though NHN Japan is the local subsidiary of Korean Internet powerhouse NHN, LINE was completely designed, created and marketed out of the Tokyo office (the first version of LINE hit the App Store after six weeks of development).

NHN Japan is planning to launch LINE for computers and tablets next.
