Asahi: Both Newspapers Move On To Survive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week we got a couple of remarkable news about what happened to the industry that usually bring us news stories about the world on the move.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Sankei Newspapers Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/sankeishinbun.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"279\" height=\"30\" \/><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sankei.jp.msn.com\/\">The Sankei Shimbun[J]<\/a>, Japan&#8217;s 7th largest newspaper in the number of its circulation, set up a new page specifically focusing on Internet services and web industry trends as the first case of Japanese major newspapers.\u00a0\u00a0 The page is inserted on every Thursday&#8217;s morning edition and is expected to be accompanied with several ads by web2.0 companies.<br \/>\nIn commemoration of the new page launch on the paper&#8217;s July 30th issue, Japanese popular video sharing site <a href=\"http:\/\/live.nicovideo.jp\/\">Nico Nico Douga&#8217;s live channel[J]<\/a> program guide was placed in the middle of terrestrial TV timetables.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4990\" title=\"Sankei's TV Program Timetable Page\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/sankei_timetable.jpg\" alt=\"Sankei's TV Program Timetable Page\" width=\"263\" height=\"349\" \/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4991\" title=\"Sankei's Webpage\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/sankei_webpage.jpg\" alt=\"Sankei's Webpage\" width=\"273\" height=\"369\" \/><br \/>\nThe edition features an Internet slang &#8220;Tsuda-ru&#8221; (refer to <a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2009\/07\/04\/twitter-politics-can-tweets-change-our-society\/\">this<\/a>), blogs under the Enjoh and officially permitted reproduction case of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.009.tv\/en\/\">Cyborg 009<\/a> drawings uploaded on illustration SNS <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pixiv.net\/\">Pixiv[J]<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/?s=PIXIV\">read stories<\/a> associated with Pixiv).<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Asahi Newspapers Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/asahinewspaper.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"167\" height=\"39\" \/><br \/>\nMeanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asahi.com\/english\/\">the Asahi Shimbun<\/a>, Japan&#8217;s 2nd largest newspaper in the number of its circulation,  launched a mobile SNS called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/35people.info\">Sanko People[J]<\/a>&#8220;, and\u00a0 it was publicized to the first 1,000 beta users.\u00a0\u00a0 Asahi developed the service in association with open source SNS program developer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tejimaya.com\/\">Tejima-ya[J]<\/a> and Tokyo-based web entertainment service developer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geishatokyo.com\/\">Geisha Tokyo Entertainent (GTE)[J]<\/a> (See <a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/?s=Tokyo+Geisha+Entertainment\">these stories<\/a> for more about GTE).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The users are allowed to interact with GTE&#8217;s chatterbot on the service.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5003\" title=\"Sanko People's Screenshot\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/sankopeople_screenshot.jpg\" alt=\"Sanko People's Screenshot\" width=\"206\" height=\"368\" \/><br \/>\nThe service targets young people subscribing to no newspaper, and provides them with knowledge sharing opportunities by enabling comment postings and social bookmarking on developing news stories.\u00a0\u00a0 Asahi runs the service  on ad-revenue basis and expects to engage 1 million users and to mark annual sales of USD 2.2 million in three years.<br \/>\nBoth of the services introduced above are not a direct approach to gaining the numbers of subscribers and revenue for news paper industry.\u00a0\u00a0 They&#8217;re writhing themselves to find ways to survive, and forced to do further more from now on.<br \/>\nVia <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itmedia.co.jp\/news\/articles\/0907\/30\/news042.html\">IT Media News[J]<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/journal.mycom.co.jp\/news\/2009\/07\/31\/041\/\">Mycomi Journal[J]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week we got a couple of remarkable news about what happened to the industry that usually bring us news stories about the world on the move.
