There were 500 PHP engineers atendees.<br \/>\nKeynote began with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geocities.jp\/rui_hirokawa\/php\/\">Rui HIROKAWA<\/a>, Japan PHP users group, who has been contributing a lot for PHP multibyte handling. He talked mainly about the PHP updates on PHP5.3, and future PHP6.<br \/>\nThe following sessions in main room were given by big-name companies who heavily use PHP, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gnavi.co.jp\/\">Gurunabi<\/a> (Groumet Navigation, the biggest online restaurant guide website), <a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2007\/10\/29\/rakuten-online-shopping-monopoly\/\">Rakuten<\/a> (The largest online shopping mall) and <a href=\"http:\/\/cybozu.co.jp\/\">Cybozu<\/a> (No. 1 share groupware package vendor).<br \/>\nAlthough <a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2007\/11\/27\/rakutenmatz-are-developping-web-os-based-on-roma-and-fairy\/\">Rakuten hires Matz<\/a>, Yukihiro MATSUMOTO, who wrote Ruby, PHP are still used widely in Rakuten, as they said.<br \/>\nThen two popular PHP influencers, <a href=\"http:\/\/project-p.jp\/halt\/\">halt<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/d.hatena.ne.jp\/shimooka\/\">Hideyuki SHIMOOKA<\/a> talked the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.php.gr.jp\/\">Japan PHP users group<\/a> retrospective and how to enhance your information-collecting ability.<br \/>\nThe panel discussion, under the masochistic title &#8220;What language you must learn after PHP?&#8221;, had been getting a lot of attention on the web because of the splendid members,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yoshinori TAKESAKO, <a href=\"http:\/\/shibuya.pm.org\/\">the Shibuya Perl Mongers<\/a> leader (after Tatsuhiko MIYAGAWA)<\/li>\n<li>Masayoshi TAKAHASHI, <a href=\"http:\/\/jp.rubyist.net\/\">Japan Ruby Associations<\/a>, also known by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Takahashi_method\">Takahashi Method<\/a> for presentation<\/li>\n<li>Atsushi SHIBATA, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.python.jp\/Zope\/\">Python Japan User&#8217;s Group<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Yasuo HIGA, The Seasar Foundation, the creator of Java DI Container <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seasar.org\/en\/index.html\">Seasar<\/a><\/li>\n<li>amachang, <a href=\"http:\/\/shibuyajs.org\/\">Shibuya.js<\/a> Javascripter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/php-conference-2008-panel.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"php-conference-2008-panel\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-606\" \/><br \/>\nEvery single of them is known as the leading engineer in each programming language in Japan.<br \/>\nThe last session was, as it has been taking root in programming language conferences in Japan, in &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lightning_Talk\">the lightening talk<\/a>&#8221; style with around 10 PHP engineers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The biggest PHP community conference in Japan, PHP Conference 2008 was held on 21th July2008 (Sea Day, national holiday) at Kamata, Tokyo.
