{"id":3811,"date":"2009-06-03T00:27:31","date_gmt":"2009-06-02T15:27:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/?p=3811"},"modified":"2009-06-03T00:27:31","modified_gmt":"2009-06-02T15:27:31","slug":"japans-leading-publisher-fails-to-monetize-its-main-portal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2009\/06\/japans-leading-publisher-fails-to-monetize-its-main-portal\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan&#8217;s Leading Publisher Fails To Monetize Its Main Portal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3812\" title=\"Kodansha's Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/kodansha_logo.gif\" alt=\"Kodansha's Logo\" width=\"195\" height=\"50\" \/><br \/>\nReportedly Japan&#8217;s leading publisher <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kodansha.co.jp\/english\/\">Kodansha<\/a> seems to have stopped updating its portal site on June 1st.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3813\" title=\"Moura's Screenshot\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/moura_screenshot.jpg\" alt=\"Moura's Screenshot\" width=\"417\" height=\"273\" \/><br \/>\nThe portal site, named &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/moura.jp\">Moura[J]<\/a>&#8221; (meaning &#8220;covering the entire world&#8221;), was launched in 2005, following the web edition of the publisher&#8217;s popular weekly magazine &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wgen.jp\/\">Gendai[J]<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0\u00a0 Almost 50 web editorial staffs were notified to dismiss the \u00a0team so lately as last month.\u00a0\u00a0 The portal&#8217;s submenu featuring comic series drawn by brand new manga artists, called <a href=\"http:\/\/moura.jp\/manga\/\">MiChao![J]<\/a> (meaning &#8220;let&#8217;s see it&#8221; in Japanese), is also supposed to be closed in coming November.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Moura&#8217;s predecessor, Gendai&#8217;s web edition was the publisher&#8217;s first site requiring subscription fee and has been repeating &#8220;try-and-error&#8221; to monetize it. \u00a0 Among Japan&#8217;s leading publishers, Kodansha was the most aggressive to switch its business field to the websphere, but this site&#8217;s ending means the publisher has failed to monetize it finally. \u00a0 In addition, its printing publication business is staying in the red,\u00a0 everyone rumors money-making magazines might be suspended in the near future.
