{"id":361,"date":"2008-06-03T01:04:59","date_gmt":"2008-06-02T16:04:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/?p=361"},"modified":"2008-06-03T01:04:59","modified_gmt":"2008-06-02T16:04:59","slug":"google-copies-icon-from-japanese-portal-goo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2008\/06\/google-copies-icon-from-japanese-portal-goo\/","title":{"rendered":"Google copies icon from Japanese portal goo (maybe not)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You might notice that <a href=\"http:\/\/googleblog.blogspot.com\/2008\/06\/one-fish-two-fish-red-fish-blue-fish.html\">Google changed their favicon image<\/a> which you see on your browser addressbar this week.<br \/>\n<a href='http:\/\/google.com\/'><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/google-favicon.bmp\" alt=\"Google\\&#039;s new favicon\" title=\"google-favicon\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-360\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nHere is NTT Resonant&#8217;s portal site &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/goo.ne.jp\/\">goo<\/a>&#8220;&#8216;s icon,<br \/>\n<a href='http:\/\/goo.ne.jp\/'><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/goo-favicon.bmp\" alt=\"\" title=\"goo-favicon\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-362\" \/><\/a><br \/>\ngoo is one of the biggest portal in Japan, though the gap to the leading Yahoo\/Google is big, <a href=\"http:\/\/akimoto.jp\/japan\/\">goo is ranked at 10th among Japanese websites<\/a> in Alexa traffic.<br \/>\nIf you think their name &#8220;goo&#8221; sounds like a Google&#8217;s copy, that&#8217;s not possible. &#8220;goo&#8221; was <a href=\"http:\/\/help.goo.ne.jp\/info\/detail\/675\/\">established in 1997\/3<\/a> as a Japanese search engine based on Inktomi technology, whilst Google was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/corporate\/execs.html\">founded in 1998\/9<\/a>.<br \/>\nSo does this mean Google try to steal goo&#8217;s popularity in Japan? Of course not. The icon change seems to be applied all over the world.
