{"id":17833,"date":"2012-07-05T07:58:51","date_gmt":"2012-07-04T22:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/?p=17833"},"modified":"2012-07-05T07:58:51","modified_gmt":"2012-07-04T22:58:51","slug":"rakuten-pinterest-button","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/rakuten-pinterest-button\/","title":{"rendered":"Rakuten Starts Featuring Pinterest On Its Japanese Marketplace And Other Properties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2007\/10\/29\/rakuten-online-shopping-monopoly\/rakuten-logo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16\" title=\"Rakuten Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/10\/w130.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"130\" height=\"48\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/05\/rakuten-pinterest-button\/pinterest-logo\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17834\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-17834\" title=\"pinterest logo\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/pinterest-logo-200x59.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"44\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nJapan&#8217;s biggest e-commerce company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rakuten.co.jp\/\">Rakuten<\/a> (US$15 billion market cap, about 80 million user accounts in Japan) has started featuring <a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/\">Pinterest<\/a> on some of its biggest websites yesterday.<br \/>\nBig R caused a major splash in back in May when it led a massive <a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2012\/05\/17\/rakuten-ceo-on-the-100b-pinterest-round-we-want-pinterest-users-to-pin-images-and-buy-using-our-id\/\">US$100 million investment in the American startup<\/a>.<br \/>\nRakuten CEO Mikitani was quoted as saying that his company has many dormant users with a Rakuten ID who he would like to see re-activated by teaming up with Pinterest.<br \/>\nTechCrunch wrote in May:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is this ID that will potentially become the lynchpin of a commercial service on Pinterest: \u201cWe want to enable our users to pin their own images with our ID,\u201d he says. \u201cUsers can click and buy with it, and in the future we can create more new services.\u201d He notes that the \u201crich, graphic social network\u201d can be used for \u201cso many interesting ideas using the Rakuten ID.\u201d One other area, TechCrunch understands,\u00a0is for users logged in with Rakuten IDs to pin images and then use those pins to buy items away from Pinterest, on Rakuten\u2019s own Rakuten Ichiba site.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>And now this plan is being put into practice.<br \/>\n&#8220;Pin it&#8221; buttons are now visible in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rakuten.co.jp\/\">Rakuten Ichiba virtual mall<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/travel.rakuten.co.jp\/\">Rakuten Travel<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/recipe.rakuten.co.jp\/\">Rakuten Recipe<\/a>, enabling users to send images to their Pinterest pinboards with one click.<br \/>\nThe &#8220;Pin it&#8221; button is actually hard to spot, but don&#8217;t be surprised: that&#8217;s typical Rakuten design.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/05\/rakuten-pinterest-button\/pinterest-rakuten\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17835\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17835\" title=\"pinterest rakuten\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/pinterest-rakuten.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"237\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWhat I find weird is that certain pages don&#8217;t seem to feature the Pinterest button, i.e. the one for the <a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/02\/rakuten-announced-kobo-touch-for-japan-priced-7980-yenus99\/\">Kobo Touch reader that was introduced a few days ago<\/a> and is currently the most popular item (perhaps because it&#8217;s just a pre-order):<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/05\/rakuten-pinterest-button\/pinterest-rakuten-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-17836\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17836\" title=\"pinterest rakuten 2\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/pinterest-rakuten-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"579\" height=\"629\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFor beginners, Rakuten also set up a special &#8220;How to use Pinterest&#8221; page, which can be accessed <a href=\"http:\/\/event.rakuten.co.jp\/sns\/pinterest\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Japan&#8217;s biggest e-commerce company Rakuten (US$15 billion market cap, about 80 million user accounts in Japan) has started featuring Pinterest on some of its biggest websites yesterday.
