At the launch, it was essentially an online video service targeting US drama fans.<br \/>\nHulu <a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2011\/09\/01\/hulu-japan-starts-first-international-extension\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began its Japanese version last September<\/a>. Hulu Japan only offers paid program, there are no free service with ads like as in its original US service.<br \/>\nHulu Japan&#8217;s current number of paid subscribers is not disclosed. US Hulu-plus(paid program) reached 1.5 million in January, but that number was already achieved by Nico Nico Douga (<a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2012\/01\/03\/nico-nico-douga-hits-1-5-million-paid-subscribers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1.5 million<\/a>, 525 yen, not only drama contents but have YouTube\/Ustream-like features) and BeeTV (<a href=\"http:\/\/news.searchina.ne.jp\/disp.cgi?y=2012&#038;d=0213&#038;f=business_0213_166.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2.05 million<\/a> [J], 315 yen, only on cellphone) in Japan.
