{"id":16182,"date":"2011-12-02T10:44:58","date_gmt":"2011-12-02T01:44:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/?p=16182"},"modified":"2011-12-02T10:44:58","modified_gmt":"2011-12-02T01:44:58","slug":"japan-gets-its-own-youtube-movie-rental-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/japan-gets-its-own-youtube-movie-rental-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Japan Gets Its Own YouTube Movie Rental Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/02\/japan-gets-its-own-youtube-movie-rental-service\/youtube_logo_new\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16183\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-16183\" title=\"youtube_logo_new\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/youtube_logo_new.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"98\" height=\"39\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nSo far, only YouTube users from Canada, the US and (<a href=\"http:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2011\/10\/07\/youtube-rolls-out-movie-rentals-in-the-uk\/\">since October<\/a>) the UK were able to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/movies\">rent<\/a> movies, but yesterday, Japan has finally been added to the list, too (the country is the second biggest market for movies in the world).<br \/>\nYoutube users in Japan can initially stream content from a total of five American and local studios onto their PCs and Android phones, namely<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Toei<\/li>\n<li>Sony Pictures<\/li>\n<li>Universal<\/li>\n<li>Warner Bros.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bandai_Channel\">Bandai Channel<\/a> (for anime)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On its official blog, YouTube Japan <a href=\"http:\/\/youtubejpblog.blogspot.com\/2011\/12\/youtube-part-2-200.html\">says<\/a> that the initial line-up consists of a mix between paid and free movies (200 in total), for example Unknown, Red Riding Hood, Take Me Home Tonight, or Sucker Punch.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/02\/japan-gets-its-own-youtube-movie-rental-service\/youtube-japan-movie-rental-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16184\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16184\" title=\"youtube japan movie rental 2\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/youtube-japan-movie-rental-2-600x391.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"391\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/02\/japan-gets-its-own-youtube-movie-rental-service\/youtube-japan-movie-rental\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-16185\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-16185\" title=\"youtube japan movie rental\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/youtube-japan-movie-rental-600x389.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"389\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPaid titles cost either 300 or 400 Yen, depending on how new they are. Movies can be rented from 24 to 72 hours.<br \/>\nThe online movie rental space in Japan has seen some movement recently.
