It&#8217;s a project born out of <a href=\"http:\/\/tokyo.startupweekend.org\/\">Startup Weekend Tokyo<\/a> in May, that provides a meeting point for like-minded people to share a house with. I talked with <a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\/kentaro.ohara\" title=\"Kentaro's Facebook Profile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kentaro Ohara<\/a>, who is one of the team members, and asked some questions about their service and what&#8217;s coming ahead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/colish.net\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/colish-site-screenshot.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"colish-site-screenshot\" width=\"500\" height=\"353\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14753\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Naoko (N):<\/strong> How do you describe Colish?<br \/>\n<strong>Kentaro (K):<\/strong> The tagline is &#8220;a roommate matching platform for a shared house with a spin&#8221;. We want to connect people who have unique visions and concept for their living spaces.<br \/>\nA User can go to Colish and post a concept for the shared house he wants to live. Here are some examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/colish.net\/concepts\/22\">Ph.D House<\/a>: the &#8220;second laboratory&#8221; for academic people who want to connect with communities for other area of research.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/colish.net\/concepts\/37\">Farmers House<\/a>: living by a farm while in Tokyo and share farming expereience.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/colish.net\/concepts\/38\">Session House<\/a>: find a place with underground sound-proof studio where you can play music on your own and with other roomates.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_14760\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14760\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/colish.net\/concepts\/37\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/farming-house-drawing.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Farmers House Drawing\" width=\"600\" height=\"456\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14760\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14760\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&quot;Farmers House&quot; concept drawing<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<strong>N:<\/strong> How is Colish different from existing roommate matching web sites?<br \/>\n<strong>K<\/strong>: Users of other sites out there are more focused on the specs and location of the space. The biggest difference is that we are trying to match like-minded people who share a similar idea of what their priorities are, in terms of the quality of life.<br \/>\n<strong>N:<\/strong> Traditionally, room sharing has not been so popular in Japan, except for among siblings. Do you see any change in this perception?<br \/>\n<strong>K:<\/strong> I think so, at least in Tokyo for the past couple of years. I think more people are becoming more open to living with roommates, and share their space and life with others who are not siblings and marital partners.<br \/>\n<strong>N:<\/strong> Let me ask you about <a href=\"http:\/\/tokyo.startupweekend.org\/\">Startup Weekend<\/a>. Why did you participate in it to bring this service together?<br \/>\n<strong>K:<\/strong> This was my second time. I think the event provides momentum to move projects forward in a short amount of time. The enthusiasm from the team members and other teams really helped. It was also a great place to meet people who want to create something. Colish team got along really well and had a good mixture of different talents.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_14758\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14758\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/242544_207574895945300_206144989421624_543681_4767795_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/242544_207574895945300_206144989421624_543681_4767795_o-600x448.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Colish Team\" width=\"600\" height=\"448\" class=\"size-large wp-image-14758\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-14758\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Colish team working together<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<strong>N:<\/strong> What can we expect from Colish in the future?<br \/>\n<strong>K:<\/strong> We have a couple of additions planned already. First, we want to make the site available in English. I&#8217;m thinking about spreading the marketing effort in the U.S., probably in San Francisco first.<br \/>\nNext, we are thinking about adding partnership with landlords or rental property information providers. In Japan, not every place allows sharing a rental with non-family members. We want to make it easier for users to find a place after they find roommates.<br \/>\nColish can also help landlords by providing added value to their place though finding unique renters.
