The company today <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberagent.co.jp\/news\/press\/2010\/1130_1.html\">announced<\/a> it will establish a development base in San Francisco this Wednesday (December 1) with the goal of creating smartphone apps for international markets.<br \/>\nCyberAgent has been active in the US since February 2008 when the company established its subsidiary <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyberagentamerica.com\/\">CyberAgent America<\/a>. The plan is to boost the number of employees from the current 30 to 100 by September 2012, mainly by hiring American and Japanese engineers.<br \/>\nCyberAgent wants to start rolling out the first smartphone apps in March next year and expects to have a total of eight titles in its portfolio by September 2011.<br \/>\nCyberAgent is one of the few Japanese web companies that successfully launched services outside the country. Their biggest international hit is <a href=\"http:\/\/pico.ameba.net\/\">Ameba Pico<\/a>, a virtual world that&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.itmedia.co.jp\/news\/articles\/1011\/24\/news021.html\">reportedly<\/a> on track to hit the 3 million user mark by year-end. A similar platform, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tinierme.com\/tinierme\/top.html\">TinierMe<\/a>, currently counts about 1.4 million members worldwide.<br \/>\nIn September this year, CyberAgent America <a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/07\/mochi-media-scores-hit-virtual-world-ameba-pico-from-japans-cyberagent\/\">announced a marketing and distribution deal<\/a> with Silicon Valley-based <a href=\"http:\/\/mochimedia.com\/\">Mochi Media<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Japanese Internet behemoth CyberAgent (listed with a $1.2 billion market cap) is ready to expand its activities in the US.
