Market share-wise, the &#8220;original&#8221; Groupon (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.groupon.jp\/\">Groupon Japan<\/a>) is leading after it acquired one of its local clones <a href=\"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2010\/08\/18\/groupon-to-buy-majority-stake-in-japanese-clone-qpod\/\">earlier this year<\/a>. It&#8217;s followed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.piku.jp\">Piku<\/a>, the first Groupon-like service in this country.<br \/>\nBut Japanese venture capital companies still see room for even more coupon services. CNET today <a href=\"http:\/\/japan.cnet.com\/news\/business\/story\/0,3800104746,20423182,00.htm\">reports<\/a> that major VC firm <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jafco.co.jp\/eng\/home\/index.html\">JAFCO<\/a> has just pumped 500 million Yen (US$6 million) into a Groupon clone called <a href=\"http:\/\/luxa.jp\/\">Luxa<\/a> through a third-party allocation of shares.<br \/>\nLuxa was established as a separate entity just last month. Before, operations were run by a company called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bizreach.jp\/\">BizReach<\/a>, which does something completely different: it&#8217;s essentially a job service for people looking for 10 million Yen+ salaries (and has nothing to do with e-commerce). In March this year, JAFCO invested in BizReach, too (namely a total of US$2.6 million).<br \/>\nLuxa will use the service to broaden its market (it&#8217;s currently active in Tokyo only) and offer a wider range of services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Like everywhere else, the Japanese market is full of Groupon clones.
