{"id":10576,"date":"2010-10-09T12:31:46","date_gmt":"2010-10-09T03:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/?p=10576"},"modified":"2010-10-09T12:31:46","modified_gmt":"2010-10-09T03:31:46","slug":"event-wrap-up-asiajin-readers-meet-up-in-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asiajin.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/event-wrap-up-asiajin-readers-meet-up-in-singapore\/","title":{"rendered":"Event Wrap-up: Asiajin Readers Meet-up in Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Asiajin @ Hackerspace.SG\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/asiajin_hackerspace.sg_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"134\" \/><br \/>\nI was visiting Singapore in late-September for attending <a href=\"http:\/\/accelerate.six.sg\/\">Accelerate 2010<\/a> and meeting with great techpreneurs.\u00a0\u00a0 Thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bernardleong.com\/\">Bernard Leong<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yourchalkboard.com\/\">Chalkboard<\/a>, a Singapore-based start-up providing retail promotion solutions for several smartphone platforms, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.justinlee.sg\/\">Justin Lee<\/a> from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tech65.org\/\">Tech 65<\/a>, a Singapore-based gadget-focused tech blog, we could have a readers meet-up at the country&#8217;s geek hub, <a href=\"http:\/\/hackerspace.sg\/\">Hackerspace.SG<\/a>, which is located at a very convenient location near Arab Street where we can take a variety of Arabian foods at any time and hear the holy Qur&#8217;an from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sultanmosque.org.sg\/\">a mosque nearby<\/a> throughout the day.<br \/>\nIf you have any chance to visit Singapore, I strongly recommend you to visit Hackerspace.SG to meet attractive people after checking out the event calendar on their website.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Meet-up_at_Hackspace.SG_snapshot.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10577\" title=\"Asiajin Readers Meet-up at Hackerspace.SG\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Meet-up_at_Hackspace.SG_snapshot.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"467\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/TwitCasting_logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10585\" title=\"TwitCasting's Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/TwitCasting_logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"313\" height=\"70\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nJapanese techpreneur Yoski Akamatsu (<a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/yoski\">@yoski<\/a>), who was visiting the country for Accelerate 2010 and enjoying watching the Formula One Grand Prix night race, also joined the meet-up, and he demo-ed his service <a href=\"http:\/\/twitcasting.tv\/\">TwitCasting<\/a> with a prototype of a combination of his mobile livestream service\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/twitcasting.tv\/\"><\/a>with a R\/C car equipped with the iPod.<br \/>\nVideo image captured with the on-board camera is available live on his laptop.\u00a0\u00a0 During his demo, a small dinner party was underway in a room next to our meet-up.\u00a0\u00a0 He threw the car into the room stealthily and let it crawl into the group under the dinner table.\u00a0\u00a0 We could what happened in that room without coming down to the room.\u00a0\u00a0 They were so amazingly surprised and commented that it looked like a scene of a secret agent movie.<br \/>\nThe camera of the iPod is laid on the car and faces up to the ceiling, that&#8217;s why there&#8217;s a mirror attached to the camera pinhole to change the angle and let you see the car&#8217;s ahead.\u00a0\u00a0 &#8220;Without this mirror, I&#8217;ll get busted&#8221;, he says with laughing.\u00a0 (If no mirror, unexpectedly it could be a molester&#8217;s tool for peeping inside someone&#8217;s skirt.)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/flickevents_logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10586\" title=\"FlickEvents' Logo\" src=\"http:\/\/img.asiajin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/flickevents_logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"51\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nMiss Yan Phun <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/yanphun\">(@yanphun)<\/a> joined the event, she is a Singapore-based techpreneur and co-founded an event management tool called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickevents.com\/\">FlickEvents<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 Her service is still in beta test, not opened to the public and I&#8217;ve not tried it out.\u00a0 But it seems like a combination of Eventbrite, Amiando and Plancast.\u00a0\u00a0 She&#8217;s studying on what kind of additional features attract users more than other competitive services.\u00a0\u00a0 If you&#8217;re interested in using the service, visit FlickEvents&#8217;
